The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a detailed warning for fishermen, urging them to avoid venturing into certain sea areas between 14 August and 19 August 2025 due to potentially dangerous weather and sea conditions. The warning covers multiple regions in the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and adjoining coastal waters. The advisory is given state-wise and area-wise below for clarity.
Maharashtra (Konkan Coast) and Goa
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea along and off the Konkan and Goa coasts from 14 August to 19 August 2025. Most parts of the westcentral Arabian Sea, adjoining areas, and some parts of the eastcentral and southwest Arabian Sea are expected to remain unsafe during the same period.
Karnataka
The Arabian Sea along and off the Karnataka coast is expected to experience rough conditions from 14 August to 19 August 2025. These conditions are linked to strong winds and high waves in most parts of the westcentral Arabian Sea and adjoining waters.
Kerala and Lakshadweep
Dangerous sea conditions are forecast for the Arabian Sea along and off the Kerala coast and adjoining Lakshadweep areas from 14 August to 17 August 2025. The Lakshadweep and Comorin areas will also be unsafe for fishing during this time.
Tamil Nadu (South Tamil Nadu Coast)
In the Bay of Bengal sector, fishermen should avoid the Gulf of Mannar and the waters along and off the south Tamil Nadu coast from 14 August to 19 August 2025. This includes unsafe weather conditions due to high winds and rough seas.
Andhra Pradesh
The Bay of Bengal along and off Andhra Pradesh coast will remain unsafe from 14 August to 16 August 2025. Additionally, the south Andhra Pradesh coast will see dangerous conditions specifically on 16 August.
Odisha (South Odisha Coast)
Fishermen are advised to avoid the Bay of Bengal along and off the south Odisha coast from 14 August to 16 August 2025, as the sea state is expected to be rough.
Sri Lanka Coast (International Waters Advisory)
The Bay of Bengal along and off Sri Lanka coast will remain unsafe for fishermen on 14, 15, and 18 August 2025.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands
The Andaman Sea is forecast to experience unsafe conditions from 14 August to 16 August 2025. These areas will likely see rough seas and strong winds.
Other International Waters and Coastal Areas
- North Arabian Sea: Southern parts will be unsafe on 14 August 2025.
- Somalia Coast, Yemen Coast, Oman Coast and adjoining sea areas: Unsafe conditions are expected from 14 August to 19 August 2025.
- Central and South Bay of Bengal: Dangerous sea conditions are forecast on 14, 15, and 18 August 2025.
- Many parts of Central Bay of Bengal and some parts of South Bay of Bengal: Unsafe on 16 and 17 August 2025.
- Some parts of North Bay of Bengal: Unsafe on 14 and 15 August 2025.
The IMD stresses that fishermen in these regions should strictly adhere to the advisory and avoid venturing into the warned areas during the specified dates to ensure safety at sea.
