Kerala on High Alert IMD Issues Orange Warning for Heavy Rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy rainfall across Kerala in the coming days. An orange alert has been declared for four northern districts today, signifying the potential for extremely heavy downpours. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures.

Heavy Rainfall Warnings and Alert Status

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy rainfall across Kerala in the coming days.

Orange Alert Districts (Today and Tomorrow)

Today, an orange alert has been declared for four districts — Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Tomorrow, the orange alert will extend to Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur.

Isolated areas are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall, with totals ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours. Districts likely to be affected today include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram.

Yellow Alert and Expected Rainfall

Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts tomorrow, signaling the potential for heavy rainfall in isolated locations. Rainfall in these areas is expected to range from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours. The IMD has also cautioned that thunderstorms may accompany the rain.
