Heavy Rain & Strong Winds Expected in Andhra Pradesh

Overview

A new low-pressure system is predicted to form over the southeast & east-central Bay of Bengal, which is expected to trigger widespread rainfall accompanied by thunder and strong winds in parts of Andhra Pradesh over the next four to five days. Officials have issued a weather alert and are advising residents, farmers and fishers to take precautionary measures in the affected districts.

Formation of the Low-Pressure System

According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, the low-pressure area is likely to evolve in the southeast & east-central Bay of Bengal by Friday, with subsequent intensification into a depression or deep depression. Because of this development, rain-bearing clouds are expected to travel across coastal and interior districts of Andhra Pradesh in a phased manner.

Expected Weather Conditions

  • The next four to five days will see widespread rainfall with thunderstorms in several districts.
  • On Monday and Tuesday, particularly heavy rain is expected, and the coastal belt may experience onslaught of strong winds.
  • Along the coastal strip, winds are predicted to blow at 35-55 km/h, affecting sea-fishing operations.

Districts Likely to Be Affected

The alert specifically mentions districts such as Konaseema, Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, and Nandyal, where rainfall may range from moderate to heavy. In coastal areas, fishers are strongly advised not to venture into the sea until the situation stabilises.

Government Response & Emergency Measures

The Chief Minister remotely chaired a tele-conference from Dubai, instructing all departments to stay in strict vigilance and coordinate for life-and-property protection. Financial relief has been sanctioned: for districts already affected by heavy rain, ₹2 crore each has been approved, and for other impacted districts, ₹1 crore each. Evacuation orders have been issued in areas prone to landslides and weakening slopes; residents there are being moved to safer locations.

Precautionary Guidance for Citizens

• Stay updated on weather bulletins and follow instructions from local authorities.
• Avoid travel in heavy rain and strong wind conditions—especially in coastal and flood-prone zones.
• Fishermen and sea-going vessels should suspend operations until the warning is lifted.
• Secure loose objects around homes and farms; ensure drainage channels are clear to prevent flooding.
• Farmers should monitor their fields, especially low-lying crop areas, and take protective action if required.

Why This Alert Matters

Because of the projected intensity and duration of rainfall, the event may lead to flooding, wind damage, coastal erosion and agricultural disruptions. The early warning gives people time to prepare, thereby reducing risks to life, property and livelihoods in Andhra Pradesh.
