Flash Flood Risk Outlook for August 15, 2025: Statewise Details and Precautions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a detailed 24-hour flash flood risk outlook valid until 11:30 IST on August 15, 2025. The forecast highlights regions with moderate to high and low to moderate risks of flash flooding due to expected rainfall in the next 24 hours. The areas at risk include several districts across Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Vidarbha in Maharashtra. The likelihood of surface runoff and inundation remains significant in areas with fully saturated soils and low-lying locations.

Himachal Pradesh

A moderate to high flash flood risk is predicted in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Lahul & Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan districts. These regions may experience surface runoff or waterlogging due to intense rainfall over already saturated ground, increasing the potential for flooding in vulnerable areas.

Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

The districts under moderate to high flash flood risk include Anantnag, Bandipore, Baramula, Doda, Ganderwal, Jammu, Kathua, Kistwar, Kulgam, Kupwara, Punch, Rajouri, Ramban, Riasi, Shopian, Udhampur, Leh and Ladakh, Mirpur, and Muzaffarabad. Rainfall over the next 24 hours may lead to inundation in fully saturated soils and low-lying zones.

Uttarakhand

Moderate to high risk areas in Uttarakhand include Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Pauri Garhwal, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, and Uttarkashi. Given the steep terrain and recent rainfall, runoff and localized flooding are likely.

Karnataka and Goa

Low to moderate flash flood risk is anticipated in the coastal districts of Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, and Uttar Kannada in Coastal Karnataka. Adjoining South Interior Karnataka districts including Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, and Shimoga are also under low to moderate risk. Additionally, the Konkan & Goa meteorological subdivision is expected to be affected.

Maharashtra (Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha)

In adjoining Madhya Maharashtra, Kolhapur and Satara districts face a low to moderate flash flood risk. In the Vidarbha region, Amaravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondiya, Nagpur, and Yavatmal districts are also under similar risk levels. The possibility of surface runoff and localized inundation is high in these areas due to forecasted rainfall.

Andhra Pradesh and Yanam

Low to moderate flash flood risk is expected in East Godavari, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, and Yanam districts within the Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam meteorological subdivision.

Telangana

The Telangana districts at low to moderate flash flood risk include B. Kothagudem, J. Bhupalpally, Kumaram Bheem, Mancherial, and Peddapalle. Prolonged rainfall may aggravate flooding in saturated soils and low-lying regions.

With the forecast pointing to both moderate to high and low to moderate risks across multiple states, residents in the mentioned districts are advised to remain vigilant. Authorities may take preventive measures, especially in flood-prone areas, to minimize damage and ensure public safety.
