Agromet Crop Advisory – IMD Guidelines for August 2025

These Agromet advisories have been obtained from Press Release Number 4218 of the India Meteorological Department, New Delhi, dated 14 August 2025. They provide state-wise guidance to farmers for protecting crops from water stagnation and ensuring proper field drainage during the ongoing heavy rainfall conditions.

Andhra Pradesh
In the Krishna Godavari Zone, ensure adequate drainage in fields of rice, maize, groundnut, cotton, black gram, green gram, pigeon pea, and sesame. In the North Coastal Zone, drain water from maize, cotton, sugarcane, paddy, mesta, red gram, green gram, black gram, and groundnut fields. In the High Altitude Tribal Zone, remove excess water from standing crops and vegetable fields.

Telangana
In the Northern Telangana Zone, drain out excess water from rice, cotton, maize, soybean, pigeon pea, turmeric, and vegetable fields. In the Southern Telangana Zone, do the same for rice, cotton, maize, red gram, soybean, sugarcane, and vegetables.

Odisha
In the Eastern Ghat High Land Zone and South Eastern Ghat Zone, ensure proper drainage in rice (especially lowland and medium land), maize, and vegetable fields to prevent water stagnation.

Madhya Pradesh
In the Vindhyan Plateau Zone, provide adequate drainage for maize, soybean, black gram, cotton, and pigeon pea. In the Satpura Plateau Zone, focus on maize, soybean, cotton, sugarcane, and vegetables. In the Central Narmada Valley Zone, drain excess water from rice, soybean, maize, sugarcane, and vegetable fields. In the Nimar Valley Zone, ensure drainage in soybean, pigeon pea, cotton, and vegetable fields.

Chhattisgarh
In the Bastar Plateau Zone, make arrangements to drain excess water from kharif maize, rice, minor millets, pulses, and vegetables. In the Plain Zone, focus on rice, soybean, pigeon pea, green gram, black gram, groundnut, maize, sugarcane, and vegetables. In the Northern Hills Zone, drain water from rice, maize, vegetable fields, and orchards.

Maharashtra
In the Konkan region, drain excess water from rice, finger millet, turmeric, groundnut, vegetable fields, and orchards. In the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, focus on rice fields. In Vidarbha, ensure drainage in soybean and cotton crops.

Jammu and Kashmir
In the Sub Tropical Zone, avoid water stagnation in maize, pulses, cowpea, bajra, fodder crops, and vegetable fields. In the Intermediate Zone, maintain drainage in maize, pulses, and vegetable fields. In the Valley Temperate Zone, provide staking to bottle gourd, cucumber, bitter gourd, and indeterminate tomato vines. Create proper drainage channels in maize fields for rainwater removal.

Himachal Pradesh
In the Mid Hills Sub Humid Zone, maintain drainage in ginger, turmeric, and maize fields. In the Sub Montane and Low Hills Sub Tropical Zone, focus on rice, maize, and vegetable fields. Harvest matured tomato, capsicum, and brinjal fruits in the Mid Hills Sub Humid Zone and ripened tomatoes in the High Hills Sub Temperate Wet Zone.

Uttarakhand
In the Bhabar and Tarai Zone, maintain a 5–7 cm water level in rice fields by removing excess water and ensure drainage in sugarcane, maize, green gram, and black gram fields. In the Hill Zone, keep rice field bunds clean and maintain drainage in soybean, maize, pulses, finger millet, ginger, vegetable fields, and fruit orchards. In the Sub Humid Sub Tropic Zone, ensure drainage in barnyard millet, finger millet, green gram, and black gram fields.

Uttar Pradesh
In the Bundelkhand Zone, arrange drainage for pigeon pea, chilli, and onion fields. In the Western Plain Zone, postpone sowing of pigeon pea, maize, green gram, and black gram until heavy rains subside. Ensure drainage in all pulses, vegetables, and other crops, and provide scaffolding in bottle gourd fields.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal
In the Terai Zone, drain excess water from rice, chilli, and gourd fields. Protect chilli seedlings from heavy rains by covering them with plastic sheets.
