Agricultural Advisories for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

Introduction

The following agricultural advisories have been sourced from the National Agromet Advisory Service Bulletin, issued by the Agricultural Meteorology Division, India Meteorological Department, Pune. These recommendations aim to guide farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with crop-specific practices to optimize yields and manage pest and disease challenges under current weather conditions.

Andhra Pradesh

North Coastal Zone

  • Rice Transplanting: Proceed with transplanting rice and ensure adequate irrigation to prevent moisture stress.

Scarce Rainfall Zone

  • Sowing Activities: Sow groundnut, red gram, and castor, as current weather conditions are favorable.
  • Tomato Pest Management: To control powdery mildew in tomatoes, apply Index at 1g per liter or Hexaconazole 5% SC at 2ml per liter of water.

High Altitude Tribal Zone

  • Rice Transplanting: Continue transplanting healthy rice seedlings aged 20-25 days with 4-6 leaves and a well-developed root system. Maintain a spacing of 20 cm × 15 cm between seedlings.
  • Coconut Drainage: Ensure proper drainage in coconut fields by maintaining circular basins approximately 5 feet from the trunk to prevent water stagnation.

Krishna Godavari Zone

  • Water Management: Regularly remove excess water from pigeon pea and maize fields to avoid waterlogging.

Southern Zone

  • Paddy Transplanting: For paddy transplanting, clip the tips of leaves to prevent stem borer infestation. Leave 20 cm pathways every 2 meters of transplanted crop to manage brown plant hopper (BPH) attacks.

Telangana

Northern Telangana

  • Cotton Disease Control: Due to recent rains, stem blight may occur in cotton. Drench with Carbendazim + Mancozeb at 2g per liter of water during clear weather.
  • Red Gram Disease Management: If Phytophthora wilt is observed in red gram, drench with Metalaxyl at 2g per liter of water during clear weather.
  • Soybean Root Rot: For root rot in soybean caused by recent rains, drench with Copper Oxychloride at 3g per liter of water during clear weather.
  • Turmeric Nutrient Management: If iron deficiency is noticed in turmeric due to recent rains, spray micronutrients or Ferrous sulphate at 10g per liter of water during clear weather.

Southern Telangana

  • Water Drainage: Drain excess water from submerged rice nurseries, recently transplanted paddy, and fields of cotton, maize, red gram, soybean, sugarcane, and vegetables.
  • Rice Direct Seeding: If time is insufficient to raise a nursery, opt for direct seeding of short-duration rice varieties (120-125 days) under puddled conditions (Wet DSR).
  • Rice Sulphide Injury: To manage sulphide injury in rice due to waterlogged conditions, drain water from fields, allow the soil to dry until thin hairline cracks appear, and then re-irrigate.
  • Red Gram Wilt Management: For Phytophthora wilt in red gram under waterlogged conditions, drench soil with Metalaxyl at 2g per liter of water after rains cease.
