Agromet Advisories for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh – 14 to 19 August 2025

These agromet advisories are derived from the National Agromet Advisory Service Bulletin dated 14 August 2025, released by the Agricultural Meteorology Division, India Meteorological Department, Pune. The following recommendations are tailored for farmers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, based on recent rainfall patterns and forecasted weather conditions.

General Advisory for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

Significant rainfall has occurred in Burhanpur, Vidisha, Satna, Seoni, Shahdol, Sidhi, Singrauli, Tikamgarh, Umaria, Panna, Rewa, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Dindori, Jabalpur, Katni, and Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh, as well as in Balod, Balrampur, Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewara, Dhamtari, Gariaband, Jashpurnagar, Kanker, Kondagaon, Koriya, Mohala Manpur Chowki, Mungeli, Narayanpur, Raigarh, Raipur, Sukma, and Sarguja districts of Chhattisgarh. With rain and thundershowers expected at many places in these states over the next 4-5 days, including heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in West Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours, East Madhya Pradesh during the same period, Chhattisgarh from the 15th to 17th, and Madhya Pradesh on the 16th, 17th, and 18th, farmers should postpone irrigation, intercultural operations, and the application of plant protection measures and fertilizers to standing crops. Adequate drainage should be provided in crop fields to prevent waterlogging.

Madhya Pradesh

Soybean

In the Satpura Plateau Zone, use yellow sticky traps to manage whitefly adults and remove plants infected with yellow mosaic disease to prevent its spread. In the Jhabua Hills Zone, use T-shaped bird perches at 2 to 2.5 feet height with 20 to 25 per hectare and pheromone traps at 20 per hectare to control caterpillars, and spray lambda-cyhalothrin 4.9 CS at 300 ml/ha or Emamectin benzoate 1.9 EC at 425 ml/ha during clear weather to manage tobacco leaf-eating caterpillars, semiloopers, and girdle beetles. In the Gird Zone, ensure proper drainage to manage diseases and insects. In the Kymore Plateau and Satpura Hill Zone, remove yellow mosaic disease-infected plants and install T or Y-shaped pegs and pheromone traps at 8 traps per acre to manage caterpillars.

Maize

In the Jhabua Hills Zone, arrange drainage for excess rainwater due to potential heavy rainfall. In the Malwa Plateau Zone, monitor for fall armyworm and stem borer, and spray Emamectin Benzoate 1.5% + Profenophos 35% w/w WDG to manage attacks. In the Kymore Plateau and Satpura Hill Zone, spray Emamectin Benzoate 5 SG at 100g in 150 liters of water per acre during clear weather to control fall armyworm.

Paddy

In the Bundelkhand Zone, apply Cartap hydrochloride at 20 kg per hectare in clear weather if stem borer pests are observed. In the Central Narmada Valley Zone, maintain proper water levels and apply nitrogenous fertilizers. In the Kymore Plateau and Satpura Hill Zone, complete late transplanting immediately.

Pulses, Oilseeds, and Vegetables

In the Satpura Plateau Zone, start planting during clear weather and ensure proper drainage in sown crops. Provide physical support to banana, tomato, and climbing crops. In the Nimar Valley Zone, perform weeding and hoeing for weed control, install bird perches to attract predatory birds, and manage mite and whitefly infestations in chilli at the vegetative stage by maintaining balanced nutrition and adequate moisture, spraying Difenthurion 30% + Pyriproxyfen 8% w/w SC at 1000 ml per hectare in 500 liters of water during clear weather if infestation begins. In the Gird Zone, prepare nurseries for medieval cauliflower with proper drainage and undertake transplanting of brinjal, chilli, and tomato. In the Bundelkhand Zone, carry out weeding in black gram, green gram, and sesame, and clean bunds to protect crops from harmful insects.

Sugarcane

In the Central Narmada Valley Zone, perform intercultural operations and monitor for early shoot borer, applying Carboryl Sevidol 4% G at 12.5 kg if observed.

Kharif Crops

In the Vindhya Plateau Zone, install light traps or insect-specific pheromone traps for integrated pest management, arrange drainage for waterlogged fields, and spray Profenophos 50 EC at 1500 ml/ha in 600-700 liters of water or dust methyl parathion 2% at 25 kg/ha to control pod borer complexes in cucurbitaceous crops, mung, and urd during cloudy weather.

Chhattisgarh

Paddy

In the North Hill Zone, control yellow stem borer by destroying adult pests and eggs, pulling out dead hearts, using pheromone traps at 2 per acre, and spraying Tricyclazole at 0.6g per liter of water during clear weather if boat-shaped spots are observed. In the Chhattisgarh Plain Zone, apply the second dose of nitrogen fertilizer as urea at 30 kg per hectare at the tillering stage, use balanced fertilizers to prevent bacterial leaf blight, and apply potash fertilizer at 8-10 kg/ha during clear weather if the disease appears. In the Bastar Plateau Zone, drain excess rainwater from transplanted fields and spray Hexaconazole at 1g per liter of water during clear weather if sheath blight disease appears.

Maize

In the North Hill Zone, earth up and provide support with bamboo to long-duration or flowering maize plants. In the Bastar Plateau Zone, place T-shaped bamboo perches at 10 per acre to manage caterpillar populations.

Vegetable Crops

In the Chhattisgarh Plain Zone, perform intercultural operations at 20-25 days after sowing in bitter gourd, bottle gourd, and cowpea for weed control, arrange staking for creeper vegetables, and spray soluble sulphur at 3g per liter of water during clear weather if powdery mildew is observed in black gram. In the Bastar Plateau Zone, support vines of gourd, bitter gourd, cucumber, cowpea, bean, and pumpkin with poles and ropes.

Banana

In the Bastar Plateau Zone, identify and remove water suckers and provide immediate bamboo support to flowering or fruiting plants.

Orchards and Tall Crops

In the North Hill Zone, provide mechanical support with stakes or bamboo to prevent lodging or breakage, and adopt ladder-like bamboo structures for cucurbit crops.

Animal Husbandry

In Madhya Pradesh, apply Malathion, cleaner, or Butox at 2ml per liter of water on animals to prevent ticks and lice, and tie a muzzle on animals after application. In Chhattisgarh, vaccinate animals against foot and mouth disease, strangles, stamp disease, and Fadakiya disease, and vaccinate poultry birds against Ranikhet disease with the first dose (F-1) at 7 days and the second dose (R2B) at 8 weeks.
