Punjab & Haryana (General)
Immediate actions for standing crops and horticulture.
- Drain out excess water from fields of rice, maize, cotton, pigeon pea and vegetables.
- Harvest matured crops of rice, green gram, black gram and cotton and shift produce to safer, dry places.
- Provide mechanical support and staking to horticultural crops and young fruit plants to avoid lodging due to strong winds.
Western Zone of Punjab
Planting and crop protection recommendations.
- Undertake planting of evergreen fruits: mango, sweet orange, mandarin, lime, lemon, litchi, guava, aonla, loquat, ber, papaya. Complete planting as soon as possible this month.
- Plant cloves of garlic (variety PG-18).
- Sow radish, turnip and carrot. Prepare land for berseem sowing.
- High humidity and cloudy weather may cause false smut in rice. If symptoms observed, spray Galileo Way 18.76 SC (picoxystrobin + propiconazole) @ 400 ml/acre or Kocide 46 DF (copper hydroxide) @ 500 g/acre in 200 litres of water per acre.
Western Plain Zone of Punjab
Harvesting and planting operations.
- Harvest paddy/basmati as soon as they mature.
- Complete planting of sugarcane up to October and prepare land for sowing of berseem.
- Undertake transplanting of main season varieties of cauliflower and sowing of carrot.
Sub Montane Undulating Plain Zone
Planting, crop protection and support measures.
- Plant evergreen plants: citrus, guava, mango, litchi, sapota, jamun, bael, amla.
- If high humidity persists, risk of false smut in rice — spray Galileo Way @ 400 ml/acre or Kocide @ 500 g/acre in 200 litres water.
- Prop up sugarcane using the trash twist method early this month to minimise lodging.
- Transplant cauliflower, tomato, broccoli in their fields.
Undulating Plain Zone
Harvesting and support measures.
- Undertake harvesting of maize.
- Prop up the sugarcane crop by using the trash twist method.
Central Plain Zone of Punjab
Timely harvests and planting.
- Harvest matured maize at the earliest and store in a safe, dry place.
- Undertake sowing of carrot.
- Complete planting of early-maturing sugarcane up to 20th October.
