Krishi Advisory for Rajasthan

Crop-Specific Agromet Advisories for Rajasthan

Rajasthan’s diverse agro-climatic zones necessitate tailored crop management practices to ensure optimal growth and yield. Below are detailed recommendations for various crops across different zones, focusing on sowing, weed control, fertilization, and pest and disease management.

Maize

Sub Humid Southern Plain and Aravali Hill Zone

Conduct hoeing and weeding to maintain maize crop health. Remove excess plants to ensure a plant-to-plant distance of 20 cm. For maize at the knee-height stage, apply 50 kg of urea per hectare to support growth.

Semi-Arid Eastern Plain Zone

Perform hoeing and weeding in maize crops that are 3-4 weeks old. Apply the remaining amount of nitrogen as a top dressing to promote healthy development.

Southeastern Humid Plain Zone

For maize crops showing stem rot disease due to excess moisture, ensure proper drainage arrangements and avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer application. Spray Copper oxychloride at 3 g per liter of water every 12-15 days to manage the disease.

Southern Humid Plain Zone

Undertake hoeing and weeding in maize fields 20-30 days after sowing to promote healthy crop development.

Pearl Millet (Bajra)

Flood Prone Eastern Plain Zone

For weed control in bajra, spray Atrazine 50% WP at 100 g per hectare in 300 liters of water during clear weather.

Transitional Plain Zone of Inland Drainage

Apply 20 kg of nitrogen 25-30 days after sowing pearl millet crops, ensuring sufficient soil moisture.

Semi-Arid Eastern Plain Zone

Conduct hoeing and weeding in 3-4-week-old pearl millet crops. Apply the remaining amount of nitrogen as a top dressing.

Arid Western Plain Zone

To control leaf-eating insects in pearl millet, broadcast Quinalphos 1.5% dust at 25 kg per hectare.

Cotton

Irrigated North Western Plain Zone

Maintain weed-free cotton fields and ensure an optimal plant population to support healthy growth and maximize yields.

Southern Humid Plain Zone

Perform hoeing and weeding in cotton fields 20-30 days after sowing. To control mealy bug infestations, spray Profenophos 50 EC at 1.25 liters per hectare.

Arid Western Plain Zone

To control green leaf hopper (jassids) in cotton crops, spray Acephate 75 SP at 2 g per liter of water.

Groundnut

Transitional Plain Zone of Inland Drainage

If peanut crops show signs of yellowing, apply a spray of 0.5% ferrous sulphate and 0.1% citric acid during clear weather to address nutrient deficiencies.

Hyper Arid Partially Irrigated Western Plain Zone

For groundnut crops showing yellowing symptoms, apply a spray of 0.5% ferrous sulphate and 0.1% citric acid. Perform weeding 35-40 days after sowing to manage weeds.

Semi-Arid Eastern Plain Zone

To protect groundnut crops from leaf spot disease, spray Bavistin at 0.5 g per liter of water. For white grub infestations, apply Imidacloprid 200 SL at 300 ml per hectare, mixed with 80-100 kg of soil, and apply between rows on a rainy day.

Arid Western Plain Zone

To protect groundnut crops from white grub, apply Quinalphos 20 EC at 4 liters per hectare, mixed with soil between rows on a rainy day.

Sesame

Flood Prone Eastern Plain Zone

For weed control in sesame, spray Quizalofop-ethyl 5% EC at 750-1000 ml per hectare 20-25 days after sowing.

Sorghum

Semi-Arid Eastern Plain Zone

Conduct hoeing and weeding in 3-4-week-old sorghum crops. Apply the remaining amount of nitrogen as a top dressing to support growth.

Soybean

Southern Humid Plain Zone

Perform hoeing and weeding in soybean fields 20-30 days after sowing to ensure healthy crop development.

Rice

Southeastern Humid Plain Zone

In 30-40-day-old transplanted rice fields, apply a second split dose of nitrogenous fertilizer at 870 g of urea per acre to support growth.

Green Gram

Arid Western Plain Zone

Regularly monitor green gram crops for whiteflies or sucking pests. If pest levels exceed the economic threshold level (ETL), spray Imidacloprid 17.8% SC at 0.5 ml per liter of water.

Vegetables (Chilli, Brinjal, Cauliflower, Okra, Tomato)

Sub Humid Southern Plain and Aravali Hill Zone

Undertake transplanting of chilli, brinjal, and early cauliflower on raised beds to promote healthy root development and prevent waterlogging.

Flood Prone Eastern Plain Zone

Sow improved varieties of okra. To control mosaic disease in okra, spray Diafenthiuron 50 WP at 1 g per liter of water or Acetamiprid 20 SP at 0.2 g per liter of water every 15 days.

Semi-Arid Eastern Plain Zone

Complete sowing of khira, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, bitter gourd, and cucumber. To manage anthracnose in vegetables like chilli, tomato, brinjal, and okra, spray Copper oxychloride at 3 g per liter of water.

Southern Humid Plain Zone

Undertake sowing of cucurbits to ensure timely crop establishment.
