Agricultural Advisories for Central India Crop Management in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

The following agricultural advisories for Central India (Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh) are sourced from the National Agromet Advisory Service Bulletin, issued by the Agricultural Meteorology Division, India Meteorological Department, Pune. These recommendations aim to guide farmers in managing crops effectively under current weather conditions, ensuring optimal growth and protection against pests, diseases, and waterlogging.

Central India [Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh]

General Advisories

Due to expected rain and thundershowers at many places in East Madhya Pradesh within the next 24 hours, in Chhattisgarh over the next five days, and in Madhya Pradesh from August 9 to 12, 2025, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in Madhya Pradesh for the next three days and in Chhattisgarh on August 8 and 12, farmers should postpone irrigation, intercultural operations, and the application of plant protection measures and fertilizers to standing crops. Ensure adequate drainage in crop fields to prevent waterlogging.

Madhya Pradesh

Satpura Plateau Zone
  • To enhance growth and address yellowing in standing crops, apply a foliar spray of NPK 19:19:19 water-soluble fertilizer at 100 grams per pump.
  • Provide physical support using stakes or twine for tall and creeping crops such as banana, tomatoes, and climbers.
  • For soybean at the flowering stage, control caterpillars by installing ‘T’ or ‘Y’-shaped bird perches (2 to 2.5 feet high, 20-25 per acre) and pheromone traps (8 per acre).
  • To manage sucking pests in cotton fields, spray Verticillium lecanii at 50 grams per 10 liters of water during clear weather.
Nimar Valley Zone
  • For soybean at the vegetative stage, conduct two manual weedings at 20 and 40 days after sowing. To control yellow mosaic virus (YMV/SMV), uproot and destroy affected plants and spray Thiamethoxam + Lambda Cyhalothrin (125 ml/ha).
  • For early yellowing and wilting in cotton, apply drenching with Carbendazim (1 g/liter) or Copper Oxychloride (3 g/liter) of water.
Jhabua Hills Zone
  • Use tools like a dora, hand hoe, or kulpa for moisture conservation and weed control in Kharif crop fields.
  • To manage sucking pests and yellow vein mosaic disease in soybean, spray Thiamethoxam 25% WG at 150 ml/ha during clear weather.
Gird Zone
  • Arrange proper drainage for excess rainwater in Kharif black gram and green gram crops and perform weeding.
  • For weed control in paddy, apply Bispyribac sodium 10 EC at 25 grams of active ingredient per hectare 25 to 30 days after transplanting.
  • If leaf curl (Churramurra disease) is observed in chili and tomato, spray Thiamethoxam 25 WG at 100 grams in 500 to 600 liters of water per hectare during clear weather.
Bundelkhand Zone
  • Transplant brinjal, tomato, and chili on raised beds if seedlings are ready, and perform intercultural operations while monitoring for pests and diseases.
  • For black gram and green gram at the vegetative stage, control diseases by spraying Mancozeb at 2.5 grams per liter of water during clear weather.
Central Narmada Valley Zone
  • For weed management in soybean, spray Imazethapyr 10% SL at 250-300 ml/acre 20-25 days after sowing.
  • Undertake sowing of late-sown paddy in areas where soybean and maize sowing was not possible or crops were damaged due to heavy rains.
  • Monitor sugarcane for early shoot borer and, if observed, apply Carboryl + Sevidol 4% G at 12.5 kg.
  • Inspect paddy fields for damaged plants and perform gap filling with other seedlings.
Malwa Plateau Zone
  • Ensure proper drainage in standing soybean crops and monitor for insects, pests, and diseases under current weather conditions.
  • For maize at the vegetative stage, observe for fall armyworm or stem borer and manage using recommended insecticides like Emamectin Benzoate 1.5% + Profenophos 35% w/w WDG.
Kymore Plateau and Satpura Hill Zone
  • Ensure proper drainage in maize fields to avoid waterlogging, clean clogged field drains, and create small drainage channels to remove excess rainwater.
  • For soybean at the tillering stage, spray Imazethapyr 10% SL at 250-300 ml/acre as a post-emergence herbicide 20-25 days after sowing.
Vindhya Plateau Zone
  • With cloudy weather expected, monitor soybean at the flowering stage for sucking pest infestations and control with Thiamethoxam or Acetamiprid at 0.35 to 0.45 grams per liter of water.
  • For pod borer complex (pod fly, pod bug, plume moth) in cucurbitaceous vegetables, green gram, and black gram, spray Profenophos 50 EC at 1500 ml/ha in 600-700 liters of water or apply Methyl parathion 2% dust at 25 kg/ha.

Chhattisgarh

North Hill Zone
  • To control yellow stem borer in paddy, destroy adult pests and eggs, remove dead hearts, and use pheromone traps at 2 per acre. If boat-shaped spots are observed, spray Tricyclazole at 0.6 grams per liter of water.
  • Provide mechanical support to orchards and tall or weak crops using stakes or bamboo to prevent lodging or breakage.
  • Use ladder-like bamboo structures for cucurbit crops.
  • Perform earthing up and provide bamboo support for long-duration or flowering-stage maize.
Bastar Plateau Zone
  • Arrange drainage for excess rainwater in paddy fields. If sheath blight disease is observed, spray Hexaconazole at 1 gram per liter of water during clear weather.
  • Perform earthing up in maize fields and install T-shaped bamboo perches (10 per acre) to manage caterpillar populations.
  • Provide poles and ropes to support vines of gourd, bitter gourd, cucumber, cowpea, bean, and pumpkin.
Chhattisgarh Plain Zone
  • Arrange drainage in banana and papaya plantations and keep fields weed-free.
  • For maize, control narrow and broadleaf weeds by spraying Topramezone at 30 ml/liter of water.
  • Perform intercultural operations 20-25 days after sowing in vegetable crops like bitter gourd, bottle gourd, and cowpea for weed control.
  • Arrange staking for creeper vegetables like bitter gourd, gourd, and pumpkin.
  • If sheath blight disease is observed in paddy, spray Hexaconazole at 1 gram per liter of water.
  • For weed control in black gram, spray Imazethapyr 10% SL at 750 ml/ha within 18-20 days of sowing.

Animal Husbandry

Madhya Pradesh
  • Provide 50 grams of iodized salt and 50 to 100 grams of mineral mixture daily with animal feed or fodder to maintain health.
  • Vaccinate cattle to prevent foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and hemorrhagic septicemia (HS).
Chhattisgarh
  • Vaccinate animals against foot-and-mouth disease, strangles, stamp disease, and Fadakiya disease.
  • Vaccinate poultry birds against Ranikhet disease with the first dose (F-1) at 7 days and the second dose (R2B) at 8 weeks.
