Introduction
These agricultural meteorological advisories are sourced from the National Agromet Advisory Service Bulletin dated 14 August 2025, released by the Agricultural Meteorology Division, India Meteorological Department, Pune. The bulletin provides critical guidance for farmers in Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, addressing recent rainfall patterns and offering crop-specific recommendations to optimize agricultural practices under prevailing and forecasted weather conditions.
General Advisory
Significant rainfall has occurred across most districts of Maharashtra, except Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Nashik, Pune, Sangli, Satara, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Latur, as well as in North Goa, South Goa, and the Gujarat districts of Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. With forecasts predicting rain and thundershowers over Gujarat Region, Konkan & Goa, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, and Saurashtra & Kutch during the next 4-5 days, including heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, farmers are advised to postpone irrigation, intercultural operations, and the application of fertilizers and plant protection measures. Adequate drainage in standing crop fields is essential to prevent waterlogging.
Maharashtra
Rice
In Konkan, drain excess water from rice fields, maintain a water level of 2.5 to 5 cm, and avoid intercultural operations, fertilizer application, and chemical sprays. In Madhya Maharashtra, particularly in the ghat areas of Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Satara, ensure drainage and maintain a water level of 2 to 3 cm. In Vidarbha, complete transplanting of kharif rice, maintain a 3 to 5 cm water level, and arrange drainage to prevent waterlogging.
Finger Millet, Turmeric, Groundnut, and Vegetables
In Konkan, drain excess water from finger millet, turmeric, groundnut, and vegetable fields, avoid intercultural operations and chemical applications, and provide mechanical support to vegetables to prevent lodging. In Madhya Maharashtra, ensure drainage for groundnut and vegetables, avoid intercultural operations, and provide mechanical support. In Marathwada, drain excess water from groundnut, black gram, green gram, and vegetables, postpone intercultural operations, and provide staking for vegetables.
Soybean
In Madhya Maharashtra, ensure drainage for soybean fields and provide mechanical support to prevent lodging. In Vidarbha, open conservation furrows in soybean crops to manage moisture, drain excess water, and avoid intercultural operations. In Buldhana, control girdle beetle infestation by spraying Profenophos 50% EC at 20 ml per 10 liters of water during clear weather.
Cotton
In Marathwada, drain excess water from cotton fields, undertake intercultural operations in vapsa conditions, and apply top dressing of nitrogen at 35 kg per hectare for rainfed cotton and 52 kg per hectare for irrigated cotton 60 days after sowing in clear weather. In Vidarbha, open conservation furrows to manage moisture, drain excess water, and avoid intercultural operations.
Pigeon Pea
In Madhya Maharashtra, continue nipping in 45-day-old pigeon pea. In Marathwada, drain excess water and provide mechanical support. In Vidarbha, drain excess water and avoid intercultural operations. In Washim, control leaf-eating caterpillars by spraying Azadiractin 300 ppm at 50 ml per 10 liters of water during clear weather.
Maize, Pearl Millet, and Sugarcane
In Madhya Maharashtra, ensure drainage for maize fields. In Marathwada, drain excess water from pearl millet and sugarcane fields. For sugarcane, control whitefly and pyrilla by spraying Lecanicillium lecanii at 40 g, Chlorpyrifos 20% at 30 ml, or Imidacloprid 17.8% at 3 ml per 10 liters of water during clear weather. Complete planting of adsali sugarcane in Madhya Maharashtra.
Green Gram and Black Gram
In Madhya Maharashtra, control powdery mildew in green gram and black gram by spraying Carbendazim at 10 g per 10 liters of water during clear weather. In Marathwada, drain excess water from green gram and black gram fields.
Citrus Orchards
In Marathwada, spray 00:52:34 at 15 g per liter and GA at 1.5 g per 100 liters of water for fruit development in citrus orchards during clear weather.
Orchards and Nurseries
In Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha, provide mechanical support to newly planted orchards to prevent lodging and arrange drainage for orchards and vegetable nurseries.
Gujarat
Paddy
In the Middle Gujarat Zone, keep paddy fields weed-free from 15 to 45 days after planting, maintain 2-3 cm of stagnant water, and apply granular insecticides like Fipronil 0.6% GR at 10 kg per hectare or Flubendiamide 0.7% GR at 14.28 kg per hectare mixed with sand at 25 kg per hectare at 40 days after transplanting during clear weather. Drain excess water from rice fields in the South Gujarat Zone.
Castor and Groundnut
In the North Gujarat Zone, sow certified hybrid castor seeds, preferably as an intercrop with bunchy groundnut varieties. In the South Saurashtra Zone, control sucking pests in groundnut with sticky traps at 10 per hectare and sprays of Phosphamidon, Dimethoate, Methyl-O-Demeton, Imidacloprid, Fipronil, Acetamiprid, or Thiamethoxam at recommended rates, postponing spraying if ladybird beetles are present with aphids.
Cotton
In the North West Zone, control aphids, leaf hoppers, and mealy bugs in cotton with foliar applications of Imidacloprid 17.8% SL, Azadirachtin 0.03% WSP, Diafenthiuron 50% WP, Thiacloprid 21.7% SC, Flonicamid 50% WG, or Thiamethoxam 25% WG at specified rates. In the South Saurashtra Zone, undertake interculturing and hand weeding in vapsa conditions and spray neem seed extract or neem oil for early-stage jassids and aphids. Drain excess water from cotton fields in the South Gujarat Zone.
Sesame
In the North West Zone, control leaf webber in sesame with Quinalphos at 20 ml per 10 liters of water. In the North Saurashtra Zone, spray Cartap Hydrochloride at 15 g or Neem Seed Kernel Extract at 300 g per 10 liters of water for leaf webber.
Maize, Chili, Tomato, and Brinjal
In the North Gujarat Zone, carry out interculturing and weeding in maize to conserve soil moisture and transplant chili, tomato, and brinjal seedlings.

Banana
In the South Gujarat Zone, keep one healthy sucker for banana crop ratooning, remove others, prop plants with bamboos at the bunch development stage, complete new planting of tissue culture banana varieties, and drain excess water from plantations.
Sugarcane
In the South Gujarat Heavy Rainfall Zone, control red rot and wilt in sugarcane by drenching with Carbendazim 50 WP at 10 g per 10 liters of water.
Okra
In the South Gujarat Heavy Rainfall Zone, carry out harvesting of kharif okra.
Other Kharif Crops
In the North Saurashtra Zone, mitigate moisture stress in kharif crops through interculturing, weeding, kaolin 4% sprays, mulching, and lifesaving irrigation via drip or sprinkler systems. Drain excess water from pigeon pea fields in the South Gujarat Zone.
Animal Husbandry in Gujarat
Keep animals in sheds during rainfall, store fodder safely, and control ticks with Deltamethrin or Amitraz at 2 ml per liter of water. Spray phenyl in sheds to deter flies and mosquitoes.
